The Odd Couple at Theatre Charlotte
January 31 to February 16
Have you ever wanted to see Matt Olin twelve times in two weeks? If the answer is yes, then we have some fantastic news… you can see him on stage with Theatre Charlotte as Vinnie in The Odd Couple, running January 31 through February 16!
Written by the legendary Neil Simon, The Odd Couple is one of the greatest comedies in American theatre. It tells the hilarious tale of two mismatched friends, the slobbish Oscar and the clean freak Felix, trying to make it as roommates. And, you can always count on their pal Vinne to show up for poker night with the fellas. Don’t miss out on a heartwarming evening of hijinx and hilarity! Click here for more information.

400 Rubik’s Cubes Unleash Infinite Creativity
Just before the end of 2019, Jordan Pham, a 14-year-old Charlottean, asked his parents for several hundred Rubik’s in order to create pixel mosaic portraits like those he’d found online. (It’s a story in and of itself — say Jordan’s folks — finding and shipping hundreds of Rubik’s Cubes.)
Before you ask, let us say: No. It does not involve removing the stickers and arranging the way you need them. It’s a meticulous process of working off a pattern, manipulating 400 individual cubes and assembling them into the final work of 20 rows of 20 columns of cubes.
Head spinning yet? You don’t know the half of it. Click here and let Jordan put you in the picture.

If you’re watching The Outsider on HBO, you know there are very few moments of comfort. So, it felt like a reprieve to see a familiar face pop up as a reporter at the beginning of the second episode — Laura Palka, host of the “The Daily Two” on WSOC/WAXN-TV. After we climbed out from under the covers from watching this week’s episode of The Outsider, we reached out to this reporter, field hockey/dance mom and self-confessed British royalty buff.

When my kids see me on TV, they used to ask how mommy got in the box. Now, they are too busy looking at their phones.

Four Insta-Picks from Pink Mentor, Stacy Cassio
Stacy Cassio, the founder of Pink Mentor Network, rarely slows down. But, before she takes the stage at CreativeMornings/Charlotte on Feb 7, we got her to recommend four Charlotte Instagram accounts all of us should follow. Stacy’s stock-in-trade is uncovering inspiring Queen City women, so when she says these four are tops, we’re in. She recommends:

The Creative Gent is authentic. And, he wants you to be, too.
Joshua Aurelius Galloway, also known as The Creative Gent, is a man of action and talent. He’s a photographer, freelance brand identity designer and creative consultant. (Oh, yeah, and he also makes and sells wooden bow ties with his brother.)
But, undeniable talent and drive are not the only ingredients for success in Charlotte. He has to hustle. He’s had his moments of wondering if Charlotte is where he needs to be. We asked him to tell us about the 3 biggest challenges he’s facing in Charlotte right now. Here’s one. And, yes, as a publication, we’re taking note:
Authentic Journalism from Publications
“[I want] less sarcastic journalism from people who don’t walk a mile in your shoes or know what it’s like to have to use your creative abilities to create a living income for yourself … ” – Joshua Galloway

We love the latest greatest AND the oldies, but goodies! That’s why we suggest you take a “Something Old/Something New” approach when exploring the Queen City. Today, we suggest two restaurants that pack small plates with big flavors. Gather your friends and feast together over a bounty of delicious Asian dishes in South End and Plaza Midwood this weekend!
SOMETHING OLD: Dim Sum Chinese Restaurant
This Plaza Midwood eatery has served up dim sum in the Queen City for over two decades.
SOMETHING NEW: Hawkers Asian Street Fare
Enjoy a wide variety of small plates inspired by the food stalls found across Southeast Asia.

What would you do if you were suddenly stuck with 500 pounds of peanuts?
If it were 1913, you might take them home, roast them and sell them for a nickel a bag… and that’s exactly what food broker Philip L. Lance did when one of his clients decided to not accept their large Virginia peanut order. Overnight, a snack food titan was created on South Boulevard here in Charlotte. The Lance Packing Co. was founded by Lance and his son-in-law Salem Van Every. They achieved a nice level of success as their innovative single-serve packages became popular among those looking for a quick snack to carry on the go.
Lance eventually added peanut butter to the business. In 1916, his wife Nancy and daughter Mary started spreading the peanut butter on crackers and created the first commercially sold peanut butter cracker sandwich. The cracker sandwiches were enjoyed by soldiers stationed at Camp Greene during World War I. This helped spread the popularity of “America’s Favorite Sandwich Crackers.” Each Lance cracker has over 100 years of Charlotte history baked into each bite … and we think that’s delicious!
