Charlotte NeuroArts Coalition

By Charlotte Is Creative

Creative Care for Every Stage of Life

The Charlotte NeuroArts Coalition, led by Charlotte Is Creative, brings together leaders across arts, health, research, and community sectors to advance a shared goal: improving individual and community health through the arts. We believe the arts are a powerful driver of wellbeing, connection, and resilience.

Why NeuroArts? The Opportunity:

America’s healthcare system is among the most expensive in the world, yet outcomes continue to decline. Increasingly, the solution is not more care, but earlier, more connected care. Research now confirms what communities have long known: arts participation is a health behavior.

Like exercise or nutrition, it has measurable impacts on:

  • Mental and physical health
  • Longevity
  • Social connection and cohesion

Our Focus in Charlotte:

Charlotte already has a strong ecosystem of arts and health programs. What’s missing is the infrastructure to connect, measure, and scale this work.

Our coalition is focused on advancing ArtsRx – a growing global model that integrates arts-based experiences into systems of care through referrals from healthcare providers, educators, and community partners.

Through this approach, we aim to:

  • Address mental health as a driver of overall health
  • Create a continuum of care across the lifespan
  • Position artists as essential contributors to community health

Coalition Roadmap:

Over the next three years, the Charlotte NeuroArts Coalition will:

  • Strengthen and expand existing arts & health programs
  • Partner with research institutions to measure impact
  • Train and support artists as health providers
  • Build awareness and shift perception of the arts as essential to individual and community health
  • Influence local and national initiatives and policy

This work is currently in development, with funding and partnerships underway to support long-term impact.
