CLT Art Auction in Honor of George Floyd
- /
This story was submitted by Matt from @CLTGraffiti about an art auction he has helped organize to raise funds for Charlotte Uprising and other local organizations participating in the current social justice demonstrations.
Hi Charlotte! @CLTGraffiti is back, but this time it’s to ask for your help.
In this profound inflection point in our country’s history, I have personally been scratching my head on how to best help contribute to this fight of rooting out systemic racism and police brutality. Feeling somewhat paralyzed, Instagram provided the answer.
Serendipitously, Stephen Johnston, a friend and follower of the @CLTGraffiti account approached me and said, “I’ve got some local artist’s artwork, could we partner up and auction it off on your page and donate the money to a worthy nonprofit?”
I’ve got an audience of CLT art lovers, and he has the art. I said, “let’s do it”.
I also decided to pitch in a piece of artwork to contribute to the cause. A few other artist friends got word of the effort and wanted to contribute. When we announced the auction midday Thursday, we had about 5 artists committing art to the cause…since then, the list of artist contributions continues to grow. All artists have agreed that 100% of the funds raised will go to a worthy nonprofit — one of the artist’s choosing or Charlotte Uprising, the local group that has been paying bails to get protesters out of jail.
Here’s How It Works
Over the next several days, we will be posting 2 pieces a day to auction to the highest bidder. All bidding will be transparent in the comments section of Instagram. Each piece will be posted at 9:00AM each morning and bidding will close 9:00AM the following morning.
All final bids and sales will be published and posted publicly to maintain transparency throughout the entire process.
So My Ask is Simple …
- Tune in to my Instagram account over the next few days, bid on the art you love and join us in doing your part to contribute to this noble cause.
It will be a great way to get a personal slice of the Charlotte public art scene, while also making this world just a little bit more just for everyone.
Black Lives Matter. United We Stand.
