Ask An Avenger: Where to Celebrate National Ice Cream Day
- /
National Ice Cream Day is just around the corner — this Sunday, July 21. With so many incredible ice cream shops in the Queen City, where do you go to find the perfect scoop to indulge your palate before it runs down your arm?
Well, when in doubt of where to go and what to do, our advice is to ask an Avenger … a #CLTAvenger expert, that is. Charlotte’s mightiest Instagram Corps, the #CLTAvengers always know the score. We sent out the call to Jeanna Uscier, the creator of @CLTDesserts. If anyone would know the scoop, it’s Jeanna. And, she answered.
[EDITOR’S NOTE: While some of the picks below are not technically ice cream, after seeing the photos and reading Jeanna’s descriptions, we’re sure you’ll agree it was our absolute moral obligation to present them to you.]Two Scoops Creamery

“The Two Scoops Creamery in Plaza Midwood is one of my favorite ice cream spots to visit when I’m in the area. The inside is filled with fun, Instagramable murals and now has a new piece of art adorning the wall outside!
My absolute favorite ice-cream flavor here is the cookie monster — filled with Oreos and Reece’s. It’s eclectic blue-colored vanilla ice-cream with a twist of caramel swirl.”
Ninety’s Sandwiches & Ice Cream

“Ninety’s Ice Cream is located in the University area and has the most Instagramable shakes, cookie dough pops, stuffed sweet buns and, of course, macaron ice-cream sandwiches. It’s so fun to build your own and get creative here! Don’t forget to take your photo with the #beninetycool sign inside.”
Abbott’s Frozen Custards

“For those who love custards, Abbott’s located in Concord, NC, makes slow-churned frozen custards daily (every morning) and always has exciting new flavors to choose from. Their staff is always so warm and welcoming which is an amazing plus for me. It’s definitely worth the drive to try their chocolate almond flavor!”
The Local Scoop

“My favorite thing about The Local Scoop is that they have various non-dairy ice-cream options! They also make custom ice-cream cakes for special occasions that are to die for. Located off Ballantyne Commons Parkway, it’s perfect for southside locals.”
popbar Charlotte
“Pop Bar Charlotte located in NoDa has become everyone’s favorite local Instagramable pop in the city! You can choose your pop flavor, as well as your dip and your toppings. And, conveniently, there are plenty of colorful walls to be the backdrop for your pop bar photo. They also offer gelato shakes and lattes. Watch out for new additions as Pop Bar always comes out with new items.”
