A PUBLIC ART BOON(E) AWAITS IN THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS
Treat “Yosef” to Boone, NC’s quirky, colorful art“There’s an Art-O-Mat knockoff a couple of blocks down King St. (I’m not knocking the knockoff. I applaud any effort to get original art into the hands of people, and if it also keeps an old cigarette machine out of a landfill, even better.)” – Writer, Page Leggett
Just two hours drive from Charlotte, Boone is home to the Appalachian State Mountaineers, but it’s also home to a vibrant arts scene that’s worth checking out. Writer Page Leggett recently found out it’s hot, hot, hot. And, she’s sharing some of her favorite finds in this special “exploration” batch of The Biscuit. (For those not in the know: “Hot, hot, hot” is a reference to a famous … err, infamous Appalachian recruitment video that went really, really viral. But, you have to click the link to see it. And, “Yosef” is the name of the university’s mascot.)
This is the fourth installment of a new exploration series sponsored by OrthoCarolina, that encourages everyone to go for walks to discover creative communities across the Charlotte region. OrthoCarolina has offices in Boone, Charlotte and cities across the North Carolina mountains and piedmont.
