5 Tips to Prep for Charlotte Pride This Weekend from Marty McKinney
Charlotte Pride, the leader in LGBTQ visibility in Charlotte and the Carolinas, presents and collaborates on such initiatives as Charlotte Trans Pride, Charlotte Latin Pride, Reel Out Charlotte and more.
Perhaps their most well-known project is the Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade, and it just so happens that their 7th annual parade will be this coming Sunday, August 18. Our uber-creative friend, Marty McKinney, Interaction Visual Designer at Ally Financial, is very involved in planning the festivities — so we asked him to give us his tips for attending the Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade this weekend … especially for those attending for the very first time.
(PS – Marty’s the dapper guy with the rainbow beard below.)

Here are Marty’s Top 5 Tips
#1. Download the new Charlotte Pride app. It has all the latest calendar of events, latest news and updates, etc.
#2. Drink lots of water and wear, loose and light clothing. Because it’s August. Because it’s the South. Because it’s going to be hot and humid. Trust me. Also, wear lots of color…rainbow colors to be more specific.
#3. Don’t get the 2 big events happening in Charlotte mixed up. The Dixie Gun and Knife Show at The Park Expo & Conference Center is happening not too far away. Totally different crowd. Totally different event. Less rainbows, more ammo.
#4. Come with an open mind. Life is too damn short. You’ll see all kinds of people. All colors, backgrounds, ages, genders, non-genders, drag queens, glitter boobies, and more. But it’s all in good fun and everyone is being their true, authentic self. Be yours too.
#5. Have fun! Enjoy it. Laugh. Dance. “Hug A Mom” (They have a space this year). Walk around and check out all the vendor booths. Definitely watch the Parade on Sunday…biggest Parade in Charlotte’s history. Be yourself. Be proud!
Hope to see you all out there on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. on N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte!

It’s National Relaxation Day … and we’re stressed. We don’t know exactly where to go to chill out. So, we turned to the Queen City’s Mightiest Instagrammers, the #CLTAvengers, to tell us where they like to go in Charlotte to hop off the grid and relax like Frankie.

WHERE ARE WE IN CLT? On #NationalRelaxationDay (Aug. 15) … and we can’t think of a better way to spend it than renting a movie from VisArt Video and hunkering down on the couch. VisArt — located in the Eastway Crossing Shopping Center — is a place for movie lovers run by movie lovers. One look at the Jaws-inspired return box and you know that’s true.
