Does Charlotte Really Got A Lot? Matt Olin’s Sure Fired Up About It.
The Queen City seems to have a love/hate relationship with its slogan, “Charlotte’s Got a Lot.” Because, indeed, Charlotte’s got a lot. And also, Charlotte’s got “A LOT” — you know, like, in its name and all. So given how much he loves his hometown, you can imagine how nervous Matt Olin was feeling when he was asked to head into the studio to record Charlotte’s now-somewhat-official CLTagline in all its auditory glory. As evidenced by this video of the session, the pressure clearly got to him. And, just in case you need a new favorite GIF … behold, “Angry Matt.”
This video was created with Charlotte Star Room.
Park Terrace Sign Restored
We recently reported that the Park Terrace sign had been removed for restoration. We’re excited to say that it’s back up at the AMC theater in Park Road Shopping Center and restored to its former glory.
Small Idea Leads to Big Change
Earlier this year, The Biscuit featured a story about 13-year old Aaron Anderson and his business, Anderberry Bracelets. We’re excited to say the word is spreading about this young HUG Micro-grant winner. Our media partner, WBTV, ran a feature on Aaron and his mother, Amy, last Thursday. Watch Aaron’s story on QC Morning and QC@3.
Master Your Murals
Talking Walls is almost here. A team of 14 artists will shake up more than just spray paint cans when they unleash a wave of new murals to Charlotte Oct. 16 -19. They’re adding to a proud history of mural artists in Crown Town. You can learn all about it with this printable 17″ x 11″ poster chronicling the history of the mural arts in Charlotte from the 1880s to today. The poster was researched and designed by Queens University professor and Talking Walls co-founder, Mike Wirth.

Don’t Wait for Him to Pick Up the Tabby
Thanks to recent NC legislation, dogs AND cats are again allowed to chill in our many, many breweries. But, that wasn’t always the case.
As today is National Feral Cat Day, we find ourselves turning to a forgotten corner of Charlotte mythology. In 1946, City Councilman J. Enny Haniver was challenged by his rival to enter a drinking contest against neighborhood cat, Mr. Pumpkin. While Mr. Haniver managed to squeak by a win, it was only because his orange tabby challenger was distracted by a nearby shoebox he felt uncontrollably compelled to jump into. Haniver won re-election, but the near humiliation led him to draft a law forbidding felines from imbibing fruits of fermentation. For shame!

This mural by Andy Rocco is … dare we say it … out of this world! You don’t need to take a trip to the International Space Station for an ethereal view of the earth, you just need to head down to the Metropolitan in Midtown Charlotte. Take a peek on the side of West Elm to feel like an astronaut. Even more murals will be popping up in the Metropolitan (and all across the city) when the Talking Walls Mural Festival begins on October 16. For more information on the artists and where they’ll be painting, click here.
