In Bill We Trust … Author Gavin Edwards Has Codifed the Tao of Bill Murray

He’s a Cinderella boy …
Some interviews are so awesome, they take up an entire podcast. That’s the story this week on The Biscuit Podcast. Matt Olin interviews Charlottean and NY Times best-selling author, Gavin Edwards, about his book, The Tao of Bill Murray. Matt and Gavin drink Bill Murray-style margaritas (the secret is OJ) and laugh together at scenes from Bill Murray’s career that tell the story of who Bill is and how the man who gave the world Dr. Peter Venkman lives his life.
Plus, there’s a special Queen City Quiz Show question. If you know the answer, you can win coffee at Not Just Coffee Jay Street (with or without Matt & Tim in attendance). If you know the answer, hit us up at hello@charlotteiscreative.com
We a proud member of the Queen City Podcast Network.

Like you, we turn to our media friends to help us look beyond the creative community. They tell great stories we’re happy to share, but sometimes we’re left wondering if there isn’t another story just waiting underneath.

Charlotte is a city of amazing events 7 days a week. And, unless you’ve found Michael Keaton’s cloning machine from “Multiplicity,” there’s no way you can do it all. That’s when the #CLTAvengers, Charlotte’s Mightiest Instagrammers, spring into action by giving us the good stuff we missed.
Avenger Kara Vassesur was at Advent Coworking on Wednesday for F*ck Up Night (hosted by Avenger Erin Breeden), where panelists shared life and business lessons learned the hard way. Here are Kara’s favorite words of wisdom from panelists Greg Jackson, Calla Hales and Marc Jacksina.
- “As creative people, we first undervalue our worth.” – Greg Jackson
- “The ones that are doing work don’t have time to comment.” – Greg Jackson, on handling negative comments he received early in his career
- “Make sure you have knowledge behind your zeal.” – Greg Jackson
- “I’ve learned more listening to people over the past five years [than I did getting my MBA].” – Calla Hales
- “Ask yourself how you measure success. At the end of the night, do you feel full?” – Marc Sina

And, the winner is …
Last week, we offered you a chance to win a set of free, personalized animated GIFs (like Matt above) you could use to share YOUR reactions on social media, instead of celebrities. We’re happy to announce our winner — Juan Garzon!
We’ll share a GIF or two from their “In A GIF” sessions at Charlotte Star Room!

Frights Galore at Fire House No. 4
This story comes from our buddies at @SpookyCLT. As we lurch toward Halloween, we’ll be sharing more stories of Queen City macabre.
Fire House No. 4 was built in 1926. It was operational until 1972 and has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The building now stands vacant … with the exception of one firefighter that has refused to leave. Pruett L. Black was on duty the night of April 1, 1934 when the fire bell rang. Scrambling to get ready, Pruett put on his bunker pants and headed towards the fire pole, ready to slide down from the second floor. Unfortunately, he missed his footing along the way, causing Pruett to fall headfirst down the hole and fatally fracture his skull. It did not take long for his physical body to be taken from the firehouse, but firefighters who worked in the house don’t believe he ever really left. Pruett enjoyed smoking cigars nightly. To this day, Charlotteans report that they can still smell cigar smoke coming from Fire House No. 4 from time to time.
So, next time you’re at Crave Dessert bar or hanging out on your friend’s balcony at the Vue, light up a cigar in honor of the fallen firefighter Pruett L. Black.

There are so many amazing events going on tomorrow — Sept. 28 — we’ve lost count. (Hey! We’re English majors. Cutteth us some slack!) For you last-minute planners (you know who you are), here are a few of our faves to make the most of a happy little Saturday.

While we can’t prove the incredible #GameTimeGraphic from @Nick.V.Black pushed the Panthers to victory over the Cardinals last week, we certainly can’t prove it didn’t. This week, Charlotte artist John Burgin, Jr., the creator of Frogboy — has rustled up a rootin’ tootin’ #GameTimeGraphic we know will spur the Cats on to a win over the Houston Texans.
We will feature a new Panthers graphic from a local artist every week this season. Please feel free to share and use this on social media and tag @CLTisCreative and @FrogBoyOfficial
