@CLT.Remedy’s Five Faves for International Bacon Day

By @clt.remedy

International Bacon Day is Saturday, August 31, and we are so here for it to dispense our top five ways to celebrate this foodie holiday in Charlotte.

There is simply no meal or dish that isn’t just automatically better when served with pork belly goodness. Bonus, bacon isn’t just for breakfast anymore, so we hope you enjoy this little dose of pork belly picks by @CLT.Remedy.

Disclaimer: As pharmacists, Kriska and Manny (the folks behind @CLT.Remedy) recognize that promoting the consumption of bacon and other pork belly products may lead to an increase in cholesterol and other health risks. They recommend eating and enjoying it in moderation, as with everything else! Besides, in some diets, bacon is even considered keto-friendly and a low-carb option.

LittleSpoon Eatery: A Neighborhood Break{Feast} + Lunch Spot
2820 Selwyn Ave Ste 180, Charlotte, NC 28209

We love this spot for their seasonally inspired menu, and for what they stand by very proudly: “Our bacon is Bada$”. They source locally and work with farmers and purveyors to bring only the best to the table. They have a great coffee and cocktail program as well, if you’re feeling brunchy or boozy.

Bachi: Sushi | Hibachi | Small Plates | Filipino Food
2700 W Mallard Creek Church Rd Ste 200, Charlotte, NC 28262

Have you ever had Filipino food? If you live in Charlotte, chances are slim unless you have a Filipino friend whose mom has cornered you at the dining table and fed you until you were full. But, in the University/Mallard Creek area, you’ll find Bachi serving up a few Filipino dishes along with sushi & hibachi.

Order the “Lechon Kawali” or crispy pork belly. It’s crispy on the outside but the meat is still juicy and moist inside. It’s served with a classic Filipino soy-based dipping sauce. (Pro-Tip: order a side of white rice with it, too!)

Futo Buta: Ramen Shop of the South
222 E Bland St, Charlotte, NC 28203

To say that we are “obsessed” with Futo Buta may be putting it lightly. We are HUGE fans of this modern izakaya on the Bland Station off the Light Rail in South End. Order any of their ramens and top it with the pork belly if it doesn’t already come with one. Even better, order a pork belly bun.

Forchetta: The New Way to Pronounce “Delicious Italian Food”
230 N. College St. Charlotte, NC 28202

(You’ll want to scroll all the way to the end of this photo stream.) Yes. They have a dessert comes with a BACON BRITTLE! Meet the Flourless Chocolate cake by Chef Luca. It is a rich and dense chocolate treat, but if you can manage to create the perfect bite with a little bit of the bacon, the peanut butter biscotti and blueberry—it’s like a combination like no other!

Maple Bacon Donuts: Duck Donuts and Suarez Bakery

Our top two picks in the city are from Duck Donuts (where you design your own donuts and one of their best-sellers is the Maple Bacon donut) and Suarez Bakery. Not to be mean, but the Suarez maple bacon bar only makes seasonal appearances. You must keep an eye on their Instagram for the announcement for pre-orders because they do sell-out of their limited stock on the day of. (We had to share this nugget of information because it’s that good.) We also LOVE Pepperbox Doughnuts in the Design Center and have heard that they usually have a bacon donut on rotation.
