Manor Theatre Closing. Our Hearts are Broken.
- /
And, the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in Charlotte goes to …
Many words have already been shared across Charlotte about the closing of The Manor Theatre. We’ll share two: THANK YOU.
The four of us who manage Charlotte Is Creative & The Biscuit grew up in Charlotte. The Manor has been part of our lives forever. Tim’s lifelong love of Shakespeare started by watching Henry V at The Manor in high school.
Matt has seen Little Miss Sunshine 10 times — the first was at The Manor.
Melissa has fond memories of watching Bread and Tulips and, most recently, JoJo Rabbit.
Porter, though our youngest teammate, is our resident film buff and has seen the most movies at the Manor. His favorite was Moonrise Kingdom.
We will miss it terribly.
“Loved” Vs. “Beloved”
Let’s take this as a rallying cry. Too often “beloved Charlotte treasure” is used in tandem with “just announced they are closing after X years in business …”
The waters are still choppy ahead. We’re not through it all. There are more closures coming. We need to protect the venues, businesses and creatives we adore with whatever dollars we can spare. Our love and admiration may keep them happy and excited. Our posts and shares help them stay top of mind. But, our financial support keeps them alive.
Please do what you can for the people and places that mean something to you. Those that are actively “loved” will stay with us. Those that are “beloved” will become fond memories.
