Charlotte is Creative is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that develops programs and initiatives to break the Charlotte mold and re-make it with creativity. We endeavor to make Charlotte a city that draws people in, excites them, and inspires them to invest their financial, social and creative capital.

Charlotte is Creative is seeking a Communications Manager:
EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years in content/copywriting. We are looking for a person near the beginning of their career capable of balancing creative writing, business communication and expository writing. The ideal candidate will be keen on grammar and punctuation using learning skills like Grammarly. This is a remote position, with regular in-person meetings with co-workers and daily online meetings and briefings.
SKILLS: Writing (long form and short form), a keen eye for comprehensive proofing/editing, and subject matter research to support and cross-checking/fact-checking content. This is a remote position, with regular in-person meetings with co-workers and daily online meetings and briefings.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years in content/copywriting. We are looking for a person who can balance creative writing, business communication, and expository writing. The ideal candidate will be keen on grammar and punctuation using learning skills like Grammarly. This is a remote position, with regular in-person meetings with co-workers and daily online meetings and briefings.
SKILLS: Writing (long form and short form), a keen eye for comprehensive proofing/editing, and subject matter research to support and cross-checking/fact-checking content. Familiarity with graphics programs like Canva or non-Adobe products and backend social media software as a plus. Familiarity with AP style is also a plus. Ability to create dynamic, visual reports and spreadsheets as needed. Comfortable working in collaborative cloud environments and the Google Workspace ecosystem.
ANTICIPATED HOURS PER WEEK: 40-45
Starting salary for this position will be in the $50s with possibility of full benefits in year two of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 3-4 items of website content per week
- Assist in creating & laying out, and SEO website copy (Phased in over the first 90 days)
- Assist in proofing/copy editing web content each week
- Assist with the creation of sponsored content for website, email, and social media.
- Write/edit at least 12-15 social media posts per week to start
- Will write/proof sponsored content created for clients
- Assist with media relations and PR efforts
- Create bi-weekly/monthly reports and communications to clients, partners, and sponsors
- Assist in the creation of bi-monthly impact reports, including the creation of light, engaging infographics
- Assist the Project Manager with written communication with grant recipients/database
- Perform research for web/social content and social posts
- Create invitations to live/digital events
As the Communications Manager gains more experience and shows increased aptitude, this position may provide training to begin working on:
- Backend production of digital events
- Perform light research for new work proposals
- Proofreading proposals
- Assistance with grant writing (training will be available)

Please Note: This is an internal/back office position that will not involve onsite production of live events and art installations.
