Photography Opportunity: August 2020

We want to see your neighborhood through your lens.

Earlier this year, in partnership with Charlotte Ledger, we asked several photographers to show us 10-12 photos that demonstrated how their community was handling COVID-19.

We wanted this to paint a picture of how neighborhoods across Charlotte were dealing with the pandemic and create something that could serve as a historic reminder. We also wanted it to be a short-term project as we, like all of us, hoped COVID-19 would be “over” by now. It isn’t.

While we’re tired of corona-focused content, we want to keep up our efforts to share visions of neighborhoods across the city. And, we’d love for you to help.

What are we asking of you?

If you are interested, we’d appreciate it if you’d go out in your neighborhood (we don’t want you to travel, we want to see your immediate community through your eyes) and share with us 10-12 photos of the people, places, details, etc. that show the character of your corner of Charlotte. That doesn’t mean it has to be pretty. It needs to be a vision of how you see your neighborhood and what you want others to see.

In addition to the photos, we would appreciate a one-sentence caption per photo you send. We’ll take this, build a story and a gallery on our Web site that is shared through e-Newsletters, social media, etc. You retain 100% rights to the photos. We will give you full credit and link to your Web site, social, contact (for hiring) and cash app info for tipping. We are also building an online database of local photographers on our site and you’ll be among the first there.

Our budget isn’t large for this project. We can pay $100. If that is too low and you need to pass, we understand. That won’t be the end of our interest in you. We’ll look to the future.

If you are interested, please reach out. We’ll determine next steps and a deadline. We will accept interest on a first-come, first-served basis.

We hope to work with you on this!
