Sagehaus Making the CLT Music Scene a Little “Brighter”
- /
Here at The Biscuit, we love creative collaborations. It’s a thing of beauty when two creatives meet, combine their talents and make beautiful music together … sometimes literally.
Jason Hausman, a composer/singer/multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter Emily Sage met at the December 2018 meeting of CreativeMornings/Charlotte. Emily and Greg Cox performed their duet, “The Other Side” that morning.
After sharing a tiny umbrella in the pouring rain as they walked to their cars after another CreativeMornings/Charlotte event, Emily and Jason began talking about collaboration. They discussed Emily singing on the “Played by Hausman” video series Jason and cinematographer, Ben Premeaux, produce for Charlotte is Creative. That conversation turned into a Charlotte-based collaborative project between Emily Sage and Jason Hausman called “SAGEHAUS.”
In the midst of writing and working on new music together at Hausman’s Hot Sakē studio for their personal project, Wray Ward approached Jason about composing a commercial piece for a General Electric campaign. Jason played a little snippet of Emily singing for them … and they loved it. Upon finishing the GE project, they realized they weren’t done. The song they created for GE sounded more like a current Pop/R&B song than a commercial with a “ridiculously catchy” hook. Jason decided to pitch the idea of finishing the song for digital release under SAGEHAUS and the team was more than ready to keep going.
Rounding Out the Team
To finish the song, Emily and Jason decided to call in local Rap/R&B artist, Yung Citizen (another CreativeMornings performer), and ask him to add a verse and later, to help out with some production ideas. They rounded out the production team on “Brighter” by adding Dan Hood on bass guitar and the soulful vocals of Maria Howell and Emil Foster. Sound engineers Ross Wissbaum and Connor Hausman at Groundcrew Sound helped pull it all together.
The single is available today on Apple Music and CD Baby and will soon be on Amazon Music and Spotify. And, this is just the beginning. Jason and Emily are already finishing up their next single, “Speed & Pep,” for release early Fall.
