Today on The Biscuit Podcast, Matt Olin sits down for an extended conversation with Sonja Gantt. Sonja grew up in Charlotte and is a proud graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then began her career as a reporter for a TV station in Florence, S.C., eventually moving to a reporting job with WBTV here in Charlotte. She then spent several years as an anchor and reporter for WGN in Chicago, eventually returning to Charlotte in 1997 as an anchor and reporter for WCNC. In 2016, Sonja decided to join Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as the executive director of the CMS Public Schools Foundation.
In this episode of “CreativeMornings Rewind,” Matt gets things started by testing Sonja’s trivia knowledge of their shared alma mater, UNC-Chapel Hill. Then they get into the impact of the CMS Foundation, how her prior career informs her current role, ending and beginnings throughout our lives, and her favorite things about Charlotte and Chicago.
The Biscuit Podcast is produced by Tim Miner, Matt Olin and Andy Goh. Music by Harvey Cummings.
