The #CLTAvengers Pick Their Favorite June Jams
- /
When Charlotte SHOUT! took over the Queen City in mid-May, The Biscuit put out the call and assemble the team of city’s mightiest Instagrammers to cover all the excitement and spark joy. (We hear you, Marie Kondo.) We called them “Creative Correspondents.” After just one day, they dubbed themselves the #CLTAvengers … and it stuck.
SHOUT! may be quiet right now, but June is chock full of fun. But, where to start? The #CLTAvengers are still out there, exploring Charlotte and sharing their love of the Queen City on the interweb every day. So, we’ve asked five of them to each share one event they’re really excited about before the fireworks of July.
And, now … #CLTAvengers, assemble!
Porter Metzler’s Pick
Event of Choice: HeroesCon
When & Where: June 14-16 at the Charlotte Convention Center
Tickets: Buy online here.
“The only thing that gets me more excited than seeing the #CLTAvengers assemble is seeing the actual Avengers assemble! Over the past 37 years, HeroesCon has become a Summer staple in Charlotte where costumes, collectibles and (most importantly) comics fill the Uptown Convention Center for 3 full days. Hundreds of comic book artists, each with their own unique style and stories, will be featured in the HeroesCon Artist Alley. I personally will be on the search for anything and everything to do with Avenger: Endgame’s Fat Thor, the greatest cinematic character of the past decade.” – Porter Metzler
Sydney Duarte the Traveling Gypsy’s Pick
Event of Choice: Plogging with Resident Culture Run Club
When & Where: Wednesday, June 19 from 6:30 to 9:30pm
Tickets: You don’t need tickets, but more info is free.
“I thought I was the only one! I had never heard of plogging before, but have been doing it all of the outdoor adventures that I go on and encouraging friends that come with me to do the same! What’s plogging you ask? Plogging is a Swedish fitness trend that combines jogging and picking up litter. Do good and get your workout in. I am super excited for this! Runners can choose from a 3- or 5-mile route equipped water stations and trash drop off so you don’t have to carry the trash to the finish line. Don’t want to run? There are plenty of ways to help out. Stick around for a beer afterward!” – Sydney Duarte

Event of Choice: CoLearning Community Launch Event Series – Live Panel + Vision Lab
When & Where: June 19 at The People’s Market from 6:30 to 8:30pm
Tickets: Buy online here.
“It was tough to only pick one June event! StudeoCo is building a co-learning community full of curated content and personal career development – ‘a space for continued discovery and growth.’ This local venture, even in its early stage, is a great reflection of the entrepreneurial spirit and creative drive in our community – especially when coupled with its goal to become a place for connecting people.” – Charlotte Guice

Event of Choice: Jazz Jams
When & Where: June 27 at Not Just Coffee – Atherton Mill at The People’s Market
Tickets: $5 at the door. More information is free … and here.
“My friend Tim Scott hosts and this is becoming a gold standard as an alternative jazz listening room. Musicians from all around show up and hop on and off and jam with each other, like the name suggests. It’s BYOB and super chill. It’s my treat to myself every month where I know I can show up, play cards with friends and listen to incredible jazz. One of my favorite nights in the city that I’ve been going to for almost a year and half.” – Sara Colee
CLT.Remedy’s Pick
Event of Choice: Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks
When & Where: Discovery Place June 1 to September 2, 2019
Tickets: General admission. Find more information here.
“We are super excited about this international, traveling exhibition coming all the way from Sydney. Just the quick fun facts, like how it took over ¾ of a million LEGO bricks weighing about 1.5 tons to build the 20 towers, blows our minds at how much of a CREATIVE challenge this must have been for Ryan McNaught, one of only 14 certified LEGO professionals worldwide. We can’t wait to see all the different city skylines built in detail using just LEGOs and maybe build a few LEGO structures ourselves at the exhibit!” – Kriska & Manny, CLT Remedy
