VIEWFINDER: Matt Henesy’s Photographic Wanderlust
- /
There are no shortage of incredible photographers in Charlotte sharing their adventures and their work on social media.
But, time after time, we are drawn to the wanderings of Matt Henesy – AKA @MattSHDR. Day after day, he presents the Queen City (and the region around Charlotte) as he sees it: full of color and wonder and hidden gems. From skyscrapers to murals and drive-in dives, he sees and shares it all.
Matt grew up in New York, but spent his career as an Air Traffic Controller in Pensacola, Florida. His love of photography has been a slow-burn, lifelong passion.
“I’ve always liked photography (beginning with a Pentax K1000 I got in High School), but really began to commit to it after I came across some photos by @Treyratcliff, the godfather of HDR photography. My favorite subjects are landscapes, architecture, sunsets and clouds,” says Matt.
Matt retired in 2009 and was inspired by his fellow shutterbugs on Instagram. He moved to Charlotte and got out there — exploring and shooting — every day. And, he’s invited everyone to go walkabout with him and his lens.
“I’ve been in Charlotte since 2014 and am amazed at how much it’s been growing since then to now,” said Matt.
