Meredith Connelly Opens New Exhibition at McColl Center

ART ROOTED IN OUR TIMES: 50+ARTISTS EXPLORE BODILY AUTONOMY
Meredith Connelly Curates “Sovereign: Honoring Bodily Autonomy” at McColl Center this March
In 2025, U.S. citizens’ authority over their bodies is being questioned and challenged at the highest levels of power. Artists are responding.
Local artist Meredith Connelly has curated work from 50+ artists to explore bodily autonomy in a national context. The exhibition opens at McColl Center on March 6.
Connelly has addressed personal and civil rights through past collective shows Not In Repose (2022) and UNBOUND (2023). With Sovereign, she invites attendees to consider personal agency, identity and self-determination through contemporary art.
“More than 130 artists submitted their work, showing just how deeply this theme resonates,” said Connelly. “As a curator, it is both inspiring and challenging to make selections that honor the diversity of voices while creating a cohesive exhibition experience.”
Sovereign is supported by Art By Meredith Connelly, McColl Center, Charlotte Is Creative, Safe Alliance and the Arts & Science Council.
