Jason Jet is “Numb”
- /
Between COVID-19, the murder of George Floyd, the upcoming Presidential election and demonstrations, we’re all struggling with many emotions and foundational shifts underway across the country and the world. It’s difficult for many of us to put our thoughts and feelings into words.
Charlotte musician Jason Jet has put his to music. The above is the video for his newest single, “Numb,” which addresses much of what’s going on in his head as a Black man in America … and in Charlotte. This video was filmed at the home of a friend of Jason’s on Lake Wylie earlier in June.
Please watch the video, but also read Jason’s lyrics which he has kindly shared below. And, please consider donating to the construction of Jason’s new studio.
“Numb” by Jason Jet
Featuring Dennis Reed and Jay Abe on Co-Production
Intro
numb to the world
and all its affairs
searching for truth
but no one’s aware
Firat Verse 1
My brain cells
Working overdrive just to make ends meet And I don’t sleep well
People drain me everyday of the week
But I don’t need help
I’m done with chasing after fantasies
I don’t care if you mean well
Farewell.
Black man, yea
We’re living in a world
Where we can’t pretend we’re innocent
It’s the medias agenda to portray us as feminine
Where did all our power go?
Was it when they took our soul
Or when they handed us the Bible
Hook
You got me numb numb numb
Somebody call me an ambulance
They think I’m dumb
I’m way smarter than your average
And I won’t run run run
laying here dreaming bout my exodus
Ppening my Mind to the elements
I feel the ocean breeze its so eloquent
Second Verse
Where do we go
When things hit the fan
When the ceilings low
We all gotta take a stand
Our mothers count on us
and the kids do to
and yet we’re still alive
with so much love to use
Black man, yea
We’re living in a world
Where we can’t pretend we’re innocent
It’s the medias agenda to portray us as feminine
Where did all our power go?
Was it when they took our soul
Or when they handed us the Bible
Hook
You got me numb numb numb
Somebody call me an ambulance
They think I’m dumb
I’m way smarter than your average
And I won’t run run run
laying here dreaming bout my exodus
opening my Mind to the elements
I feel the ocean breeze it’s so eloquent
Dennis Reed Speech
There’s a Nipsey in every city
There’s a Malcolm on every block
There’s a Martin in your church,
In your community
But we gotta stand up,
We gotta hold each other accountable
You can do anything
You’re powerful
Beyond measure
You’re black
