Good Things from Matt & Tim
- /
Sure, there’s plenty to fret about these days. But there’s a ton of not-evil stuff out there, too. Heck, some of it is flat-out joyful, generous, invigorating and/or awesome. That’s why we’re highlighting a handful of Good Things in every batch of The Biscuit — be they here in CLT or somewhere else in the world — that we think are deserving of your attention (and in some cases, perhaps even your hard-earned dollars). – Matt & Tim
Matt’s Picks:
New Year (R)evolution
Heart of the Matter Yoga
January 5 – 31
Feeling the need for a few less toxins and a little more health in the new year? Allison Modafferi’s got you covered. As one of the Queen City’s bonafide yoga gurus and an Ayurvedic Nutrition & Digestive Health specialist, she’s offering her wildly popular 21-day whole foods/whole life guided cleanse for the 7th year in a row — and you couldn’t be in better hands.
Mary Poppins Returns
Ah, you be illin’ over holiday family dysfunction overload and/or the state of our country? I’ve got just the elixir for you, as dispensed by Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Whishaw. The seamless blend of live action and animation during “A Cover Is Not the Book” had me floored, and I was crying like a baby throughout “Nowhere to Go But Up.” You’ll leave the theater with a bit more hope, happiness and humanity in your heart.
RevelWood Mission Live at Smokey Joe’s
Saturday, January 12 at 9PM
When it comes to live music in Charlotte, there’s no lack of killer options. I’m definitely up for experiencing one of the city’s tightest bands make the walls sweat at one of the city’s most authentic music venues.
Tim’s Picks:
La Piccolo Gabbia at 7th Street Public Market
A good friend gave my family the La Piccolo Gabbia holiday box for Christmas. The box was chock full of awesomeness, including the best gingerbread I’ve ever had and mini-biscotti. (You know, everything is better when it’s mini.) I am thankful that Gabija Janceviciute chose to make the Queen City her home and I can’t wait to get some more cookies when I’m at the market for the CreativeMorning’s (AF)terparty at 6PM to hear live music and hang this Friday.
Basal Coffee Shop at LACA Projects
It’s hard to pinpoint just one reason why I love this place. From the amazing new mural on the outside from Franco Fasoli to gentle ribbing from owner Bryce Laguer to the beautiful photography from Drea Laguer to the best background music selection in CLT to, you know, the coffee, this is such a comfortable place to sit and meet up with old friends and make new ones. A few weeks ago, I was running late for a meeting where I promised the people I was going to see I’d bring the coffee. I was in big trouble. I don’t know how they broke the space/time continuum to do it, but they got me crowd-pleasing coffee in no time and saved my bacon. Cheers, guys!
Holiday Card from Jason Harper (Good Day Charlotte)
This card just restores my faith in humanity. I believe humor binds a family together and the Harper/Elliott’s have it in abundance. In an age where so many people seem obsessed with presenting the appearance of perfection, Jason and his family embrace the absurdity of life and look for opportunities to laugh together. Checking for Jason’s latest IG post is one of the highlights of my day … every day.
