Never Trust a Historian with a Hatchet.
If You Haven’t Seen This New Charlotte Game Show … Chop Chop!Just in time for Halloween, The Biscuit is highlighting our city’s latest trivia craze, Hanchett or Hatchet. This delightfully giddy (and gory) local game show features famed Charlotte historian, Tom Hanchett, testing the historical knowledge of his fellow citizens — with an unfortunate outcome for anyone who gets their Charlotte history wrong. Hey, Tom takes his Queen City history very seriously. We’ll give this episode a PG-13 rating for mild suggested carnage and images of a respected historian entering a blood-thirsty trance. This video was produced in partnership with Charlotte Squawks & Charlotte Star Room.

PHOTO CREDIT: Joshua Galloway Colorful, energetic moments where color and status don’t matter …“I affirm that via arts and related experiences, boundaries that typically divide and ostracize become blurred and erased. And, it’s in those environments where we truly operate and function simply as human beings—sans all the limiting labels. Whether it’s in the stroke of the brushes, the unified one-two step and/or the glaring vocals of an entire crowd singing a chorus, we’re in it together and, in that moment, that’s all that matters.” Last week, we asked Davita Galloway her opinion on the 1/4 cent sales tax increase for arts, parks and education that’s on the Nov. 5 ballot in Mecklenburg County. We should have known one editorial wouldn’t be enough. Click here to read more of Davita’s thoughts on the matter.

Have Your Say in Shaping Charlotte’s FutureThe City of Charlotte has moved into the second phase of its 2040 Comprehensive Plan, which will guide Charlotte’s development over the next 20 years. City Planning has hosted several public input forums, but now they invite you to take this survey and share your thoughts on the direction Charlotte growth and infrastructure should take.

CREDIT: Blue Amber Take a Listen & Ease Your SoulOur buddy, WFAE’s Joni Deutch, is a master of uncovering established and emerging artists on the Charlotte music scene on her Amplifier podcast. This week, she interviewed LeAnna Eden, who’s working hard to build up black alternative music in the Queen City. Now, we’re hooked on the title track off LeAnna’s latest album, “Ease Your Soul, Chapman.” It’s fresh and exciting, while reminding us of the music we found digging through the cassette bins at Repo Records back in the 90s.

Why do we do what we do? Like Davita Galloway above, we believe in our bones that Charlotte’s creativity is a precious resource and a vital ingredient to unleashing our potential as a city, creating opportunities for EVERYONE who lives here. Matt Olin and Tim Miner got a chance to talk about that — and laugh a lot too — on the Sherpa’s Guide to Innovation podcast and you can listen to it here.

To get ready for Halloween, we were rummaging through the labyrinth of aisles at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall when we made a frightening discovery! Hidden in all of the knick-knacks and ancient treasures, were a stack of old comic books. That’s not weird. What was unsettling is that the entire stack seemed to be all about the horrors of living in Charlotte. Check out what we found.

We’re coming off a tough loss last week, but we’re betting John’s #GameTimeGraphic will get us back on track. Please feel free to share this on social as you get ready for the Cardiac Cats to take down the Tiny Toons … ahem … Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
